                                       THE VISION Part-5 & 6

We are now entering our fifth year for The Dixie Mattress Festival.

I am at a loss for words to express our feelings of thanks to Jerry, JR,  Steve and also Jenny too.  To quote Jerry from the first year "well I'm just out of adjectives".

We love you more than the words can tell.

The first year we sent this out not actually knowing if it was going to work at all.

Because of each of you in our growing extended "Dixie Family", it does keep working.  The phrase was coined a few years ago that this event grows family.  And, just like any family we have had some growing pains.  This is one of those "growing pains" years.  Without delving too deeply into the issue, we were forced to relocate.  Yes, what you are probably thinking right now is right, it was done rather rudely without even a modicum of professionalism.  Just unfathomable from the perspectives of karma which was presented as so highly revered. We are not going to dwell on that.  The motto this year is forward!  I know the next sentence is going to sound like a huge cliché.  We really do feel that things happen for a reason.  That reason seems to be for us to move to a stunningly beautiful venue.  Just like our last four years, this place promises to be a special and magical place with the mystical vibe that has come to define the previous  years.

In order for us to keep holding this gathering of family and friends, we will be relocating to another venue.  This year’s festival will be at Tidewater Falls Campground.  Each change through the years has lead us to better and better locations.  This year promises to continue that trend.  It is a beautiful eighty acre site nestled up against hundreds of acres of the pristine Siuslaw National Forest Wilderness Area .

So let’s see if somehow, someway, we can even surpass what we have already accomplished.  Being able to produce these shows has been a huge honor.  We have tried to capture the group consciousness while producing these shows, but the truth is we are not full time promoters.  We are made up of people you stand next to during the shows.  The group of people who have helped to make these shows possible have never asked for anything in return.  But, I am asking for your support.  From the humble beginnings along the McKenzie river our first year, then out to the high desert of southern Oregon for our second year which then led us to a farm tucked in among mcmansions for years three and four, you traveled and arrived to make it yours.  Now we asking you to follow us once again.  This time it will be a journey to one of the most naturally beautiful areas we have ever been to.  The fact that there is a venue located in a place like this almost demands that you make the trip.  Oregon has many, many very stunning and beautiful natural areas.  This place maybe the best outdoor venue I have ever been to.  Being able to come, enjoy the music and vibe that only the Band, our band The Jaackmormons can provide in this magical place is going to be pure bliss.

Although the Dixie Mattress Festival has the look and feel of a private party it is not, everyone and anyone who cares about the Jackmormons is invited to join us.  Spread the word, continue to help us build family.  The big extended family that you guys brought together over the music.  If you like what we are doing and truly want to see it continue then I am asking you to come out and join us.

Unlike most festivals and shows, we will not be in the pursuit of profit.  But we do need your help to at least break even.  We do this because we love Jerry , we love the Jackmormons, and we love seeing you at the shows.  We would like to thank you for your continued support. Thank you, thank you, thank you!   From the very bottom of our hearts, thank you.  Thank you everyone who came out and supported this endeavor.  Thank you for making it what it is today.

We hope our vision of the event is unique.  This is planned to be a special event with a limited number of people.  We tried to start something special.  In hindsight, we ended up creating a place where everyone could make it as special as they wanted.  This show is being put on by people like you, for people like you.  The plan is to continue this for as long as we possibly can.  We’ve limited the number of people to keep it small and more easily managed.  The limited number of people will also ensure that it remains something special and intimate through the years to come.  Our plan is that it will always remain this way.

We want to continue to provide the opportunity for folks to camp and be with friends and family.  We'll get to see Jerry Joseph and The Jackmormons on their own terms in a special setting with the extended family.   It is our desire to provide a place where the Jackmormons ARE the show!  A place where we all can enjoy a shared experience.  A place where we will gather, enjoy the music with our longtime friends as well as friends we have not yet met, and our extended family.  A place where the bar is not closing, where you can dance, relax and enjoy the show.  A place where no one is telling you that you can’t dance here; you have to leave now, we're closed.  A place where you don’t have to worry about driving in order to get home.  A place to be among friends and people who are there for the same reasons as you, to enjoy the music that holds a special place in all our hearts.               In addition to being able to have music under the stars again, we are being welcomed onto another person's private property.  A beautiful, and in fact stunningly beautiful location that the owner enjoys sharing with other people.  You know how different it is to have the music outside, unencumbered by the inside acoustics of a room or that boxed in feel that being walled in has.  But to be able to hold the event among such stunning beauty holds a promise of setting the bar a notch higher for Dixie yet again.  We want to leave only footprints when we leave.  I know that you will all give us your support in accomplishing this task.  Recycling and trash dumpsters will be on site.  And the venue has a composting pile that we would like to see used.

The plan still is to remain small, possibly growing it slowly in future years if there is a demand from the extended family.  In order to keep it manageable we will have to have limited attendance.  Keeping it small will also ensure that it remains a special event.

Just like last year, there will only be 150 tickets for sale.  Perhaps in the following years there might be 200, maybe and then again, maybe not.  Rest assured that it will never grow to unlimited ticket sales.  Any growth that happens will be done with a guiding factor that the uniqueness is maintained.  The growth will only include new things that ensure this and keep the costs even with the income.  Growth is secondary.  Maintaining the uniqueness and the special experience is the primary purpose. This event will never be something that is designed to turn a profit.  Instead, it is designed to turn a three day experience into a very special yearly gathering.  We hope that you can come out and join us!  Please do, you will not be disappointed.  It is your chance to experience the band performing at a level that cannot be attained in a bar setting.

None of this will be possible if you guys don’t show up.  It is the energy and smiles you bring that help propel us from good to amazing.  Our journey has led us to some really nice venues, this is no exception.  I can tell you that just the drive in to the place left me in awe of the surroundings.  This is also the first time Kelly, my wife and my partner in crime, has said she had "no reservations" about the venue.  I have to agree and I urge to come and find out for yourselves.  Tell everyone you know.  Bring your grandmom!  Buy tickets for your friends and bring them along.  Help us make it successful so that we can continue doing this.

This event is not advertised like most events because well, for one, it costs money.  And it just makes it easier to handle everything involved.  We are just a bunch of people like you.  It also helps keep the limited number of tickets in the hands of the people who want them the most, you guys.  But we need your help spreading the word to others.   If this is how you want to see Jerry and the Jackmormons perform, then bring a friend!  Help others discover what you have already discovered.  This special event is for you guys and it will always be that way because it was meant to be that way.

You made this event happen through Jerry’s music.  This event is only as special as YOU make it.  The last four years you made it very special.  The people this year have very high standards to live up to.  Look out for each other.  Take care of each other.  Everyone there will be “family.”  Everyone will be kind.  Everyone here is a friend of someone and everyone.  Everyone in attendance will be there because they were meant to be.   We are looking forward to seeing everyone again!

“THE VISION part-6”

We are now entering our sixth year for The Dixie Mattress Festival.

I would never have even tried to envision six years in the beginning.

The first year we sent this out not actually knowing if it was going to work at all. Now it's six years later and we are in awe of everyone's support.

I still don't know how to accurately express our thanks to Jerry, JR,  Steve and also Jenny too.  If the band is reading this then realize while I may get tongue tied in person and stumble through the words of thanks from everyone involved in Dixie I do think this phrase sums it all up.

We love you more than the words can tell.

Because of each of you in our growing extended "Dixie Family", it does keep working.  Years ago, it was said that this event grows family.  We have landed at a venue that is every bit as special and magical with the mystical vibe that has come to define our previous  years.

The beautiful eighty acre site nestled against the pristine Siuslaw National Forest Wilderness Area proved to be better than even I imagined.  And beyond all odds we surpassed what we have already accomplished.  Being able to produce these shows has been a huge honor.  We have tried to capture the group consciousness while producing these shows, but the truth is we are not full time promoters.  We are made up of people you stand next to during the shows.  The group of people who have helped to make these shows possible continue to stay in the shadows and never ask for anything in return.  They truly are the backbone of Dixie.  From the humble beginnings along the McKenzie river our first year, then out to the high desert of southern Oregon for our second year which then led us to a farm tucked in among mcmansions for years three and four, you traveled and arrived in year five to make it yours.  It's always been about that, the magic that everyone brings with them.

2017 Dixie Mattress Festival News

Hello Dixie friends and family. After long talks with the band, a final decision has been reached regarding 2017 Dixie Mattress Festival. Unfortunately we will be taking this year off. I know that is not what you want to hear, but that is how things have played out. Of course Kelly and I are sad too. There is a small bright spot in this bad news. There is also talk of doing Dixie 2018 at this same venue and that would allow us adequate time to plan and make it the kind of special event it has been over the years. We totally respect this decision and understand it was not an easy choice by any means for anyone. We would like to thank the band and Joe for their willingness to put DMF back in our hands. There are also hints that Kelly & I will resume making Dixie happen...with that said, a year is long way off, and as I type this I don't know what the next year will bring. I tried to check my crystal ball but the batteries were dead, so time will tell! I will post some pictures of the Venue but I don't want to mention the actual place due to it's rural setting we would still have logistics to work out before hand. We just wanted everyone to know what was going on now and what might happen in the future. Thanks everyone for your support!

At our 2014 Dixie Mattress Festival Colin Lyle got engaged to Angie Domini!  We would like to wish Colin Lyle and the soon to be Angie Lyle all the success and happiness in the world.  We just couldn't be happier.  Colin Lyle is the second preson to find wedded bliss at our event.  The first Being Randy Davidson and Laressa.  We love you all!  The Dixie Family.

THE VISION part-8
I would never have even tried to envision nine years in the beginning, never.

As you see this will be an off year for us.  It was not a decision that was arrived at lightly.  Kelly and I could never have envisioned what this event has grown into.  We cannot thank everyone enough for all the things that have been done over the years to make this the best little three day festival in the world!  We do feel some sorrow that we just didn't seem to be able to pull it off this year.  Honestly we feel a debt to the fans. You created something much bigger and more deeply entrenched in our lives than what we had expected.   Due to many, many factors, we stepped aside last year and the band graciously took over.  It now is starting to look like we might be stepping back into our original roles.  This is only possible with total band support and with your continuing support.  On a personal level it involves many changes for me, especially the one where I stop doing the physical labor.  getting old can be a pain in the ass, literally.  Not to drag out personal issues here, so we move onward.  The one thing I can say is that we are looking at a return to our roots.  We have got a spot that we believe can be magical.  And at the risk of going way out on a limb....this could be the best place yet.  Think wood nymphs, fairies and mythical settings and our extended family in a heavily wooded piece of Oregon heaven.  So looking forward most of our vision remains intact.  Now it is up to you to keep it alive and kicking...

The first year we sent this out not actually knowing if it was going to work at all. Now it's seven years later and we are in awe of everyone's support.

I still don't know how to accurately express our thanks to the band.  If the band reads this, realize I may get tongue tied in person and stumble through the words of thanks from everyone involved  I  think this sums it up.

"We love you more than the words can tell."

Because of each of you in our extended "Dixie Family", this has worked.  Years ago, it was said that this event grows family.  Well, "family", once again the god of lost of venues has reared it's ugly head. Yet somehow, we manage to keep the beast at bay.  We will be once again asking everyone to follow our lead as we move.  And, of course,  this will have it's own special set of trials, tribulations, challenges and rewards.  While it is very sad that we lost a beautiful public place as one door closes another has opened.

From the humble beginnings along the McKenzie river our first year, then out to the high desert of southern Oregon for our second year which then led us to a farm tucked in among mcmansions for years three and four, you traveled and arrived in year five and six to make it yours.  Now it's lucky number seven at "The Birk" in Birkenfeld, Oregon.  If you are a long time fan of Jerry's music you probably know the reputation the Virginia City had gotten as special and out of the way.  This was Oregon's Virgina City. Then out to Star Gazer Farms as Kelly and I took some much needed time off. Now we are looking towards year number 9!

Our vision was to plan an event that is unique.  A special event but this year we will not limit ticket sales.  You do need to buy in advance.    We tried to start something special.  In hindsight, we ended up creating a place where everyone could make it as special as they wanted.  This show is being put on by people like you, for people like you.

We want to continue to provide the opportunity for folks to camp and be with friends and family.  You will get to see Jerry Joseph and The Jackmormons on the bands own terms in a special setting with the extended family.   It is our desire to provide a place where the Jackmormons ARE the show! A place where we will gather, enjoy the music with our longtime friends as well as friends we have not yet met, and our extended family.  A place where the bar is not closing, where you can dance, relax and enjoy the show.  A place where no one is telling you that you can?t dance here or you have to leave now, we're closing.  A place where you don?t have to worry about driving in order to get home.  A place to be among friends and people who are there for the same reasons as you, to enjoy the music that holds a special place in all our hearts.  Music under the stars again.   You know how different it is to have the music outside, unencumbered by the inside acoustics of a room or that boxed in feel that being walled in has.  We want to leave only footprints when we leave.  I know that you will all give us your support in accomplishing this task.

You made this event happen through Jerry?s music.  This event is only as special as YOU make it.  The last five years you made it very special.  The people this year have very high standards to live up to.  Look out for each other.  Take care of each other.  Everyone there will be ?family.?  Everyone will be kind.  Everyone here is a friend of someone and everyone.  Everyone in attendance will be there because they were meant to be.   We are looking forward to seeing everyone again!
